PEAK Resources Celebrates 20th
Anniversary with First-Ever Scholarship for Colorado’s Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP)
$5,000 Scholarship Awarded
to Deserving High School Graduates Over Four
Consecutive Years
Denver, CO., June 23, 2011 – PEAK Resources, a Denver
based systems integrator that solves business challenges with technology
solutions, announced today that in celebration of its 20th Anniversary it will award one scholarship and a laptop per year for four years to a high school graduate from Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP)Denver. This year’s recipient is Jacqueline Godina, a recent graduate with honors of Denver School of Science and Technology.
“For 20 years we have done business with and established relationships in Denver and throughout Colorado,” said Vince DeRose, CEO, PEAK Resources. “We are grateful for our success and part of our culture is giving back to the community. It is important to invest in the future generation and KIPP was a natural choice to help young people like Jacqueline achieve their dreams.”
KIPP is a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools with a track record of preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and in life. KIPP Colorado Schools close the achievement gap for low-income students, making the dream of a college education a reality. KIPP operates two schools, KIPP Sunshine Peak Academy and KIPP Denver Collegiate, in the southwest Denver community near the PEAK Resources headquarters.
PEAK is the first company to ever donate a scholarship to KIPP Colorado graduates. Four students over four years will receive a $5,000 scholarship and a laptop.
“Companies like PEAK make our mission possible in empowering all of our students to attend college,” said Rebecca Holmes, Executive Director, KIPP. “KIPP schools have helped students make significant academic gains but we can’t make college a reality without help from our community. We are deeply grateful to PEAK for these scholarships.”
PEAK Resources will host an award ceremony this Thursday, June 23 to recognize Jacqueline Godina. Jacqueline grew up in Colorado, was raised in West Denver and attended KIPP Sunshine Peak Academy for her entire middle school years. She attended Denver School of Science and Technology for high school and graduated with honors on May 28, 2011. She plans to attend University of Colorado, Boulder this Fall. Additionally, PEAK Resources will recognize leaders from KIPP at its 20th Anniversary celebration on July 14.
ABOUT KIPP
The Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) is a network of 99 free open-enrollment college preparatory public schools in under-resourced communities throughout the United States. At KIPP, there are no shortcuts: outstanding educators, more time in school, a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum, and a strong culture of achievement and support help students make significant academic gains and continue to excel in high school and college. KIPP began in 1995 and came to Denver in 2002 with the opening of KIPP Sunshine Peak Academy, a grades 5-8 middle school. In 2009, KIPP Denver Collegiate high school was opened and in 2011, KIPP will expand to northeast Denver with the launch of KIPP Montbello College Prep, a second middle school. KIPP schools have been recognized for closing the achievement gap by Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, The Economist, and in the recent documentary, Waiting for Superman. www.kippcolorado.org
